I'm going to put a restriction on my view that a "Fair Trade" initiative is good.

Namely, I support only a CANADIAN Fair Trade initiative -- not one that is "North American".

Why the difference. Two main reasons:

1. My concern & focus on my own country's farmers AND, even more importantly, food security/sustainability.

2. Criteria for organic certification is being lowered in the U.S. - in part by the entrance of Wal-Mart & similar into the market.

A Canadian-based certification program - even though it likely would borrow heavily from 'best practices' of other countries - is another critical component to ensuring our own food security/sustainability.

Cheers

J.

J.
